Chess Frontline is full chess dressed up as a military battle. It suits chess fans who want a bit of spectacle and strategy players who like a clear board game.
About Chess Frontline
Pieces are replaced by two armies of soldiers, officers, armoured cars and tanks, and the board looks like a tactical battlefield. Each capture becomes a short fight with rifles, rotating turrets and grenades, and the camera moves in on the blast.
The rules stay true to chess, including castling, en passant, pawn promotion, stalemate and the 50-move rule. There are three AI levels, from random moves to a cunning tactician, plus hints, undo and a Second Chance after checkmate that lets you revert the key move.
A leaderboard rewards wins, with victories on higher difficulty counting double. The game works in portrait and landscape and can be handled with one hand.
How to Play Chess Frontline - Controls & Guide
- Click or tap a piece to see its possible moves highlighted
- Choose a highlighted square to send your troops there
- Pick your side and the AI level before starting
- On phones, swipe an empty area to rotate the board and pinch with two fingers to zoom
- On PC, hold the left mouse button on empty space and move to rotate, and use the wheel to zoom
- Hint shows the best move, Undo takes a move back, and Second Chance goes back two moves after checkmate
- A weak opponent gives 0.5 leaderboard points and a strong one gives a full point
